What’s the Point of This Type of Comment Spam?
Anyone know what the deal is with the latest rash of comment spam I’ve been getting? Each one has a message such as “Nice blog, just wanted to say I found you through Google” or some variant of that. A web address is entered that is always a URLized version of the person’s name that was entered, but the site is always nonfunctional…the server can’t be found. An e-mail address is also entered which is the same name as in the URL, followed by one of the popular web services like @hotmail.com, @yahoo,com, or @google.com
That’s it. No message trying to hawk a bogus product. No web links taking you to sales or pr0n-type sites. Just a worthless comment that appears to make you think you have another fan.

Sorry, due to comment spam abuse, new comments on this entry are closed until I find time to upgrade Movable Type and enable registration and moderation.
Maybe it’s a hacker testing for some sort of hole.
