David E. Trekkie
William Shatner, Rene Auberjonois, Armin Shimmerman, Ethan Phillips, and Ron Canada.
All five of these men have two things in common, and I most certainly do recognize that I’m probably a hopeless nerd for identifying the commonalities.
1) All five of these men have appeared on various incarnations of Star Trek. (I’ll continue the streak of nerdiness by revealing that Ron Canada, unlike the other four men, was not a regular character. Rather, he played three different guest characters for one episode each in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.)
2) All five of these men had roles on Boston Legal. I don’t mean just the series. I mean they all had roles on tonight’s episode of Boston Legal!
Oh, and let’s not forget that Boston Legal’s creator, David E. Kelley, also came up with Boston Public and eventually brought in Jeri Ryan, better known as Seven of Nine. Plus, she appeared in two episodes of Boston Legal.
Does David E. Kelley have some connection to Star Trek that I don’t know about?
I think I can find more examples, though I do realize a lot of well-known actors have made appearances on Star Trek, but to have a total of five in one episode is just, uhm, weird.
Oh what the hell—more actors who’ve made appearances both on Star Trek and David E. Kelley projects: Corbin Bernsen, James Sikking, Colm Meaney, Scott Grimes, Casey Biggs…
…feel free to take over.
