The Joke’s On Us All
I am on travel right now visiting the Cape Canaveral area and today is my flight back to Seattle. Due to the events on August 10, I decided it would be a good idea to arrive with no less than two hours of time to get through security.
Driving to Orlando International, filling up with gas, and returning the rental car proved to be a little less time consuming than I had thought. This gave me about two hours and 10 minutes to check in, get through security, and be at the gate.
When I saw the line at the check-in, I was thinking that I had done the right thing, but the check-in went relatively smooth and fast in spite of my having two assigned seats.
Security lines were relatively nonexistent, and this is where the story gets interesting. I do believe that was the fastest I have ever managed to get my backpack through security. All I took out was a small bottle of hand lotion and a couple sticks of lip balm when I was packing last night. It made me realize that the “added” security is a joke. They didn’t add security—they simply shifted their focus to liquids and gels. I’m now worried that getting more standard weapons and tools may be easier than it was before the security alert.
The good news is that I have more than an hour to get coffee and get online before I board. If I have any more problems, I’ll have to update this post, but I’m betting it’ll be fine.
