Kiss It Goodbye

Well, it took more than two years, but it finally happened. If you’ve gotten an e-mail from me, you may have noticed that it came from repliesonly@ (this domain). Normally, I ask people to invent their own first part of the address and the reply address is just for convenience.

I always tell people, never save my reply address since I reserve the right to kill it at any time. And I have done so. Tonight, my reply address used for the past two years received its first spam e-mail. Therefore, I exhibited absolutely no hesitation to kill it.

If you have saved that previous reply address, delete it, because it won’t work any more. Instead, click the contact link on my home page for this blog and follow the instructions for creating an address to save.

And if you’re the one who succeeded in sharing my old reply address to spammers…well, I would say something to you right now, but I have readers who would take offense. I’m sure you know the words I’d use if I were inclined.

Your system seems like way too much work. AND, you have no protection if some spammer decides to use random return addresses in your domain for one of their spam mailings. This happened with me and after over 100,000 bounce messages in the space of 3-4 days I turned off all addresses going to my account. At this point, I’m just about to give up and move my mail domain hosting to google since their spam filters are much better than anything else out there. :-(
