How Dell Fell

I just don’t get how some companies can let a bunch of moronic sales reps bring the company down. Dell seems to wander down this path from time to time. A few weeks ago, I went online and put together a quote for a number of rack-mount Dell computers. I then gave the quote to a buyer who called the appropriate rep at Dell. This rep tells the buyer that he can save us money and remakes the quote. The buyer, thinking she was doing a good thing, forgot to have me look over the quote.

The order I got is severely screwed up in terms of what I wanted. Now if the order was going to cost more, I could see the rep doing this on purpose, but he knocked off thousands of dollars worth of OS software, rack rail hardware, memory, and more. He essentially cost Dell some profit and severely pissed me off in the process. I’d like to just seal the boxes and ship them right back, but since it was our buyer who accepted the quote, my choices may be limited. I’ll know more tomorrow when I have a talk with this rep.

I love Dell computers, but their sales reps are drastically lacking in brain power.

That’s why my office uses a corporate extranet with CDW, supplemented by business account with CompUSA. CDW would never pull crap like this.

I deal with CDW a _lot_. Don’t even get me started on the crap they pull.
