Best Commercial Ever

I’m amazed… who knew Gene Kelly was so very supafly?
But seriously, VW dominates advertising. Consistently. Bravo.

I’m somewhat amused that everyone to whom I showed this before blogging it could only comment on the awesome dance routines. My intent was to point at the awesome digital work that appears to make Mr. “Singin’ In the Rain” himself bust a move. I mean, sheesh, I’m not yet 35, and my younger friends don’t recognize the classic scene?

I’m “not yet” 31 and I have to admit that I don’t really recognize the scene. I know of the scene, but I don’t recognize it.

Though I didn’t note it during our IM conversation about the clip, I actually wasn’t the least bit impressed with the digital work. It’s like they’re trying to have Kelly dance both the robot and a smooth move at the same time, and it doesn’t work. Granted, I don’t make it a habit to watch hip-hop dancers, but still, it looked pretty fake to me.

I think the jerkiness of that clip is perceived from the head placement. Obviously I don’t know for a fact, but I’m quite certain that the body portion is actually a real person doing the moves. I have clips of home video showing people doing these robotic style dances that almost looks too perfect to not be fake, but it’s real.
