Do Not Patronize Provantage.com
I somehow had the (mistaken) impression that Provantage was a pretty decent place from which to order products. Boy am I wrong.
Froogle pointed me to Provantage when I searched for 5.2gb DVD-RAM cartridges that I use in my server for backing up. The first batch I bought last March were $10.32 each, which I thought was pretty good. Naturally, when I saw a $5.76 price on Provantage, I was immediately interested.
I set up to order 10 of them and plugged in my state for a shipping estimate. Cheapest option was, naturally, ground service. Cost: $44.65!
What kind of frickin’ scam is that!?
These things are only a little taller than a standard CD jewel case and certain don’t weigh much more. It does not cost that much to ship a handful of them. Hell, just today I shipped a 22 lb. DVD duplicator/printer for repair and the FedEx Ground shipping cost was around $23.
Congratulations, Provantage, for your well-earned addition to the Idiot of the Moment ranks, jerks.

You did.
It was my turn! :-) And I obviously didn’t pay attention to your entry. Then again, it was two years ago!

I’m sorry. I thought I’d ranted about that at one point or another. I can attest to that not being an isolated incident. In the government, we’re required to “shop around”. I’ve always found the best prices on Provantage, but the WORST shipping costs. I honestly don’t understand how they stay in business.
