A Music Milestone

Upon encoding the two-disc Wow Hits 2005 album tonight, I’ve officially passed the 5,000 songs mark in my iTunes and iPod library.

I guess I’m what Apple would consider the typical user. My entire library of 5,004 songs is 19.59 gigabytes. Apple advertised the 20gb iPod as holding 5,000 songs. Looks like I’m doing just a hair better, but close enough.

And no, I’m not planning to reveal how many of those songs were purchased from iTMS as opposed to ripping CDs.

But yet, I will state that the number of songs acquired by other means is rapidly diminishing. Sure, I used to find albums any way I could, but just about every time the Shuffle mode reminds me of a tune I’m not supposed to have, I soon afterward attempt to find it on iTMS or a physical CD. Unfortunately, I know for a fact there are some radio remixes and other types of content I’m positive I’ll never find again. I’m not sure what to do about those.
