Electrons Are Flowing Again

My power was restored sometime mid-afternoon. I called the apartment office from my office a little before 3:30 and they told me it had just come back on. I can’t speculate how long a period of time “just” meant, so I’ll just assume sometime between 3 and 3:30.

Normally, I can tell how long ago it came back on because my microwave always powers back up at 0:00. This time, however, the power had been flickering several times on Sunday and I didn’t want that to mess up things, so I killed all my breakers. Naturally, my microwave didn’t power back up with 0:00 until I got home and turned the breakers back on.

Alas, cable TV and internet is still out. I’m pretty sure Bright House is having some widespread problems at the moment because it was out both at my office and at Jeff’s house, too. I guess I’m wringing out every last bit of worth from my land line before it gets deactivated tomorrow!

I know that I can bridge my computer through Bluetooth to my cell phone to get online, but the last time I tried, it would only permit me to use AT&T’s mMode service, of which I only get 1MB per month on my current package. Dialing anything other than the code to activate mMode was blocked when the number was dialed from a Bluetooth-attached device. It’s been a while since then, and AT&T is on a newer network. I’ll have to do some experimenting. If I can dial up to Earthlink instead, and I do it after 7pm, I can use my cell phone as a modem as long as I need.
