Wireless Disconnection

Although I wired my house with cat5e when I had it built, I absolutely love having a laptop with a good battery and an 802.11b PCMCIA card. My wife and I frequently drain the battery after hours of web browsing.

The other day, my wife turned off the computer, then set it on the floor beside the couch. After a while, she got up and accidentally stepped on the antenna that sticks out the side of those PCMCIA cards. I pulled out the card and saw that the antenna consists of a plastic snap-on case. The bottom of the case had a crack in it, but I managed to snap it back into place.

I put the card back in and turned the computer on. Everything worked perfectly. Thank goodness for quality products from Linksys! I told my wife that she should have stepped on it a bit harder so I would have an excuse to go buy an 802.11g card. Obviously I’d have to buy a new router to go with it! :-)
